Me: Peacefully Passes Away At 90 Years Old, X the Next Day: refers to a series of memes using a phrasal template about the meme creator passing away of old age and their favorite video game company, TV show or movie, etc., releasing a long-awaited sequel or DLC pack for a game the next day. The meme first became popularized on Twitter and TikTok in April 2022, becoming increasingly popularized in January 2023.
Origin
On April 23rd, 2022, Twitter[1] user @its_menieb posted a video of a fake Grand Theft Auto VI trailer under the caption, "Me: *peacefully passes away at 99 years old while waiting for GTA 6* Rockstar Games the next day:" garnering over 3,500 likes in nine months (shown below).
Spread
The meme was recreated and reposted numerous times on social media over the following months. For example, on May 2nd, 2022, TikToker[2] @honestlyaskhim reposted it, garnering over 1.8 million views in eight months. On December 30th, TikToker[3] @memeoleando reposted it, garnering over 4.5 million views in a month. On January 23rd, 2023, Twitter[4] user @interyvention posted a new version of the meme about Minecraft releasing the "sex update" after they die, garnering over 980 likes in three days (shown below). The meme was recreated and posted by TikToker[5] @g465_x the next day, garnering over 3.2 million views in two days
On January 25th, TikToker[6] @awpaofastora posted a version of the meme about Fromsoft releasing Bloodborne 2 after they die, garnering over 90,000 views in under a day (shown below).
