About
Me If An Intruder Breaks In refers to a viral trend on TikTok in which people describe the various ways that they would try to defend their house if an intruder breaks in, particularly one late at night. Set to the song "Let's Get Loud" by Jennifer Lopez, the trend emerged in late 2023 and shows humorous ways that people will attempt to defend their house while showcasing that they do not have the actual skills required to defend themself due to choices made when they were younger.
Origin
On May 15th, 2022, the audio for "Let's Get Loud" was uploaded to TikTok by TikToker avengeraepp,[1] who used it as a background song for a scene from Thor: Ragnarok in which Thor is threatening Loki. The TikTok, which gained over 411,000 likes in 16 months, was edited to show Loki dancing to the beat of the song, which would not be repeated in the later uses of the song as a viral audio (shown below).
Over a year after its initial upload to the platform, the "Let's Get Loud" original sound on TikTok started to get used in humorous TikToks showing how one would respond to a late-night break-in or home intruder threatening them. This is seen in one of the first examples of the format, uploaded by the TikToker slvt4dm[2] on October 25th, 2023, in which because she took ballet as a kid, all she can do is plie (a movement in which a dancer bends the knees and straightens them again) when an intruder breaks in (shown below).
Spread
This new usage for the audio quickly went viral, with November and December 2023 having many different variations and usages for it. For example, on November 26th, 2023, TikToker jordanmaguire[3] posted the most viral version of the meme in which a conversation takes place between Jordan and his mother. In the TikTok, Jordan is telling his mother that he wants to do karate, but she then says that he has to take ballroom and Latin dance, leading to his dancing if someone breaks into the house at 3 a.m. The skit earned over 3.4 million likes in one month (shown below).
The trend began to see some variations over the following months. For example, TikToker aurorashar[4] uploaded a TikTok on December 3rd, 2023, in which the mother wants their child to take karate. The punchline then changes into the poster saying that they should get a dog, before showing the dog lazily sitting on the couch claiming that at 3 a.m. they wouldn't be helpful, earning over 3 million likes in one month (shown below).
