About

Me Everytime After The Lobotomy refers to a catchphrase written in the top text of an exploitable video template originally showing a video game Bart Simpson running around and bumping into walls. The meme ultimately displays schizo level confusion after an imagined lobotomy. The video was first posted to Reddit's /r/okbuddyretard subreddit in late 2021 but trended on TikTok and Instagram going into 2022 as creators replaced the video but kept the top caption and flashed imagery similar to subliminal messaging. The video became associated with Hood Irony memes on TikTok, spawning Hood Lobotomy memes and videos in 2023.

Origin

On November 9th, 2021, Redditor Jacooo2019 posted a video to /r/okbuddyretard[1] that had a top caption reading, "me everytime after the lobotomy 🤦🏾‍♂️😂:" and showed footage of Bart Simpson running around and hitting walls from the 2007 video game The Simpsons Game while the filter became embossed and negative. Additionally, The Beatles' album cover for Abbey Road periodically flashed as well as odd sound effects. Over the course of a year and a half, the video received roughly 3,100 upvotes before it was removed by the subreddit's moderators. It is currently the first-known posting of the video.

Spread

After the video's upload in late 2021, it spread to iFunny. For instance, on December 15th, 2021, iFunnyer[2] CursedEdits posted a moldier and altered version that flashed additional imagery such as Tighten Staring and demonic stick figures. Over the course of 13 months, the post received over 360 smiles (shown below).

In early 2022, the aforementioned version was reposted to Instagram,[3][4] earning more engagement. Also, on May 29th, 2022, the video was reposted to TikTok by TikToker[5] sw1ftr, gaining roughly 400,900 plays and 65,200 likes in eight months.

Soon after, on July 24th, 2022, TikToker[6] dotquack posted an iteration that showed Ayumu Kasuga 'Osaka' from Azumanga Daioh and kept the top caption, gaining roughly 32,100 plays and 4,400 likes in six months (shown below, left). It is currently the first known posting of the video and it was soon reposted to Instagram[7] where it received more engagement. More iterations surfaced on TikTok and elsewhere in late 2022, such as a video uploaded by TikToker[8] funnyvideoclipchart on September 9th, 2022, that captioned a creepy Caillou video, earning roughly 31,600 plays and 2,200 likes in four months (shown below, right).

Hood Lobotomy

Hood Lobotomy refers to a subset of Hood Irony memes common on TikTok that combine Greenscreen Silhouettes and the Me Everytime After The Lobotomy video concept into one video genre that reads like noncoherent and avant-garde schizoposting. Although the Hood Lobotomy aesthetic was founded on Instagram starting in 2020, the phrase "Hood Lobotomy" wasn't coined until early 2023 on TikTok within Hood Irony comment sections on the app, later inspiring the #hoodlobotomy hashtag.
