About
Me and My People Are Leaving is a memorable quote that comes from the character Rick Grimes (portrayed by Andrew Lincoln) in the TV series The Walking Dead. Beginning in mid-May 2023, the line began seeing use as an audio meme format in TikTok lip dubs to signal when something happens that would make someone want to leave an area. It is also notably used in the When the Function Doesn't Have X meme.
Origin
On May 12th, 2023, the original scene from The Walking Dead (which occurs in season six, episode 16, titled "Last Day on Earth") was uploaded to TikTok by user fullgrimes[1] that introduced the soundbite to the platform and received over 400 likes in two weeks (shown below).
Spread
On TikTok, the audio quickly started to spread over the following weeks, with various TikToks being uploaded that additionally referenced other memes. For example, on May 24th, 2023, TikToker masan_the_footman[2] uploaded a TikTok in which the person and their boys are leaving before winning a "bajillion dollars," earning over 42,000 likes in two days (shown below).
On May 25th, 2023, TikToker adamd362[3] uploaded another example using the audio format in which a furry coming out to their dad would result in the dad and his friends leaving (shown below).
