Me and My Friends Would've Killed X with Hammers is a phrasal template that originated from a viral tweet by Twitter user @HelloCullen in 2021 that read, "me and my friends would've killed E.T. with hammers I can tell you that much." The phrase went on to become an ironic phrasal template meme in which "E.T." is replaced by a victim of one's choosing.
Origin
On January 1st, 2021, Twitter[1] user @HelloCullen posted a tweet that read, "me and my friends would've killed E.T. with hammers I can tell you that much." The tweet gathered at least 57,000 likes[2] before it was deleted (shown below).
Spread
On September 2nd, 2021, Twitter[3] user @lawyerman_ktk posted a version of the tweet in reference to the Bollywood film Koi Mil Gaya, which also features an alien befriending young children. The post gathered over 200 likes in two years (seen below, left). On January 2nd, 2022, Twitter[4] user @MIMI_ZIMA posted a tweet that read, "Me and my friends would have killed the chipmunks with hammers I can tell you that much," gathering over 26,000 likes in a year (seen below, right).
On November 13th, 2022, Twitter[5] user @NotABigJerk posted a tweet that read, "me and my american friends would have killed the little chef with hammers I can tell you that much," gathering over 1,000 likes (seen below).
On November 30th, 2022, Twitter[6] user @plainwhiteclaw posted a tweet that read, "me and my friends would’ve killed Young Sheldon with hammers I can tell you that much," gathering over 500 likes in eight months. The tweet received a response from Iain Armitage, the lead actor that plays Young Sheldon (seen below).
