The promotion inspired memes and parodies on Twitter and elsewhere in which creators speculated as to what the meal's toy was, many centering on a Grimace paperweight that looked similar to a dildo or butt plug.

Origin

Jokes online about McDonald's serving Adult Happy Meals date back further than their 2022 release. For instance, on April 19th, 2019, Twitter^[1] user e4moji tweeted about an Adult Happy Meal scenario involving something called a "McVibrator," gaining over 190 likes in three years.

However, the majority of such memes and jokes came around September 27th, 2022, when McDonald's posted a carousel post to its Instagram^[2] account announcing an upcoming collab with Cactus Plant Flea Market for Adult Happy Meals coming to locations on October 3rd, 2022. Over the course of one week, the post received roughly 113,700 likes (shown below).

For instance, Barstools' tweet^[4] sent on September 28th received roughly 26,300 likes in six days (shown below).

Once the meals were released on October 3rd, 2022, multiple reactions and memes surfaced on social media. For instance, on October 3rd, 2022, Twitter^[7] user Wizzrobe tweeted photos of his Happy Meal, gaining over 855 likes in one day (shown below, left).
