The Mascara Trend or the Mascara Wand TikTok Trend refers to a TikTok trend in which women write captions about their vibrators or sex toys using the word "mascara" as slang instead of "vibrator." The trend began in mid-January 2023 and spread across the platform over the course of the month, often set to the song "Constellations" by Duster.

Origin

On January 12th, 2023, TikToker^[1] @trynnafind.kendall posted a selfie video with a caption describing how she lost her favorite mascara and can't find one as good as it, ending the caption "(this isn't about mascara)" and actually referring to a vibrator, garnering over 1.7 million views in 11 days (shown below). This is the earliest known video in the trend.

Spread

The trend then spread over the following days as other TikTokers began discussing their sex toys using the word "mascara." For example, on January 13th, 2023, TikToker^[2] @jensw0r1ld posted a video following the trend, garnering over 3.1 million views in 10 days (shown below, left). on January 17th, TikToker^[3] @professionalmeateater posted a video following the trend, garnering over 4.7 million views in six days (shown below, right). The majority of the videos are set to the original sound "constellations by duster."^[4]
