About
Mark Zuckerberg Drinking and Surfing With American Flag is a viral video and meme of Mark Zuckerberg wearing a tuxedo and surfing while holding a can and an American flag with Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the U.S.A." playing over the footage. The clip, which was shared by Zuckerberg on the Fourth of July in 2024, was remixed and edited into memetic content on social media shortly after it was posted, including theories about the Meta CEO attempting to rebrand himself.
Origin
On July 4th, 2024, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg posted a video[1] of himself surfing in a tuxedo, drinking a canned beverage and holding an American flag to celebrate Independence Day. The post amassed over 11 million views in a day (seen below).
This is not the first viral video of Zuckerberg surfing during the July 4th holiday, as the Mark Zuckerberg Foil Surfing image similarly became a viral meme in July 2021.
Spread
The video was quickly shared to other social media platforms on July 4th, 2024, often being parodied and memed by users. For example, Twitter / X CEO Elon Musk mocked Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg's July 4th surfing post, replying to a tweet[2] of the video with, "May he continue to have fun on his yachts. I prefer to work." The post (seen below, left) amassed more than 8,200 likes and 700 reposts in a day.
On the same day, X[3] user @greg16676935420 used a still image of Zuckerberg's July 4th surfing video in an image macro meme captioned, "The evolution of Mark Zuckerberg" (seen below, right), which amassed over 10,000 likes and 520 reposts in a day.
Also on July 4th, 2024, TikTok[4] user @zoltronic compared the 2020 White Sunscreen Face Mark Zuckerberg meme with the new video of the Meta CEO surfing (seen below, left), adding the overlay text, "Meta's PR team deserves a raise," which received roughly 114,000 plays and 1,500 likes in a day.
TikToker[5] @sofiia.yevsyeyeva also posted Zuckerberg's video on the 4th, captioning it, "Am I the only one who has a crush on Mark Zuckerberg?" The post (seen below, right) amassed roughly 6,000 plays and 62 likes in a day.
