Man Running From Cannibal, also known as Man Chased by Cannibal, refers to a series of viral videos of a French-speaking African man allegedly being chased by a tribe of cannibals somewhere in Mali, Africa. The videos went viral on TikTok and Twitter / X in early 2024 and were originally posted by Mali-based TikToker @roi_des_punu_4.0official that January.
Origin
On January 20th, 2024, TikToker[1] @roi_des_punu_4.0official posted a video that showed himself running away from a person who looked like a cannibal, gaining over 2.1 million plays and 225,200 likes in three weeks (shown below, left).
The TikToker[2][3] posted multiple videos of the same nature in the days that followed, earning millions of plays each. For instance, on January 22nd, he posted his most viral TikTok[4] in the series thus far, gaining over 32.1 million plays and 3.3 million likes in 20 days (shown below, right).
Spread
The videos gained viral reposts soon after, like one shared by TikToker[5] @_theparanormalchic on January 27th, 2024, gaining over 268,000 plays in 15 days. On January 31st, Instagram[6] user @flanders_718 posted a Reel in which he humorously narrated the video, gaining over 11,900 likes in 11 days (shown below).
On February 4th, 2024, X[7] user @DisturbingVidz shared the video, writing, "Have you ever been chased by a real cannibal? REALLY HAD TO RUN FOR YOUR LIFE?" receiving over 48.9 million views and 116,000 likes in one week.
The tweet inspired a slew of reactions and memes on X, such as a quote shared by X[8] user @Loccdawggg on February 7th, reading, "Man cut the turbo on and got LOOSE," gaining over 138,000 likes in four days (shown below, left).
On February 8th, 2024, X[9] user @kirawontmiss posted a quote, reading, "bro went into sport mode real quick I’m in tears😭," receiving over 186,000 likes in three days (shown below, right).
Cannibal In Water Video
On February 8th, 2024, TikToker[10] @roi_des_punu_4.0official posted another video in which he was bathing in water where a man with blue face paint appeared. Over three days, the video received roughly 6.6 million plays and 709,300 likes (shown below).
The video was reposted by X[11] user @JustLikeMikee on February 9th, who wrote, "These cannibal videos are getting wild 😳☠️," receiving over 21.6 million views and 22,000 likes in two days (shown below).
In turn, the tweet received viral quotes from others on X.[12]
