Man, HRT Sure Is Amazing is a redraw meme format in which one character tells another they're planning on transitioning using hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and coming out as a trans woman. The other character is supportive until after their friend transitions and ends up looking exactly like them, with the friend saying, "Man, HRT sure is amazing." The earliest known version of the meme was posted by X / Twitter user @RAR1JACK in late October 2024 and references My Little Pony: Equestria Girls. It became the subject of redraws that month, garnering spread to sites including X, Reddit, Instagram and Tumblr.

Origin

On October 26th, 2024, X^[1] user @RAR1JACK posted a My Little Pony: Equestria Girls meme in which a blonde character tells Applejack that they plan on coming out as a trans woman. Applejack says, "That's great! As your friend I'll support you no matter what." We then see that the character has transitioned and looks exactly like Applejack. They say, "Man, HRT sure is amazing." Applejack is unimpressed and says, "Why the fuck do you look like me?" The post garnered over 8,800 likes in four days. This is the earliest known example of the meme.

The same user made and posted another variation of the meme to X^[2] that day, garnering over 14,000 likes in four days.

Later on October 26th, X^[3] user @felinemagicall posted a version of the meme using characters from The Owl House, garnering over 7,100 likes in the same span of time. This is the earliest known redraw of the meme.

Spread

The format gained viral spread over the following days. On October 27th, 2024, a version of the meme was posted to the subreddit /r/mysticmessenger,^[4] garnering over 800 upvotes in three days. On the same day, X^[5] user @pump_upthejam_ posted a version referencing Murder Drones that gained over 4,600 likes in the same span of time.

Also on October 27th, the mlpshitposting Instagram^[6] page reposted one of the original versions of the meme, garnering over 5,500 likes in three days.

On October 28th, 2024, Redditor u/newtonium_119 posted a version of the meme referencing My Hero Academia to /r/BokuNoMetaAcademia,^[7] garnering over 3,900 upvotes in two days.
