Mama That Burn or Mama Dat Burn, also known as I'm Getting My Silk Press, is a viral video by TikToker @naturallycrownd_nblessed in which a mother tries to give her daughter a silk press but burns her forehead with the brush, resulting in her daughter saying, "Mama that burn" and her mother telling her "be still." The clip was posted in late October 2024 and became the subject of memes in November, both as a catchphrase and a lip dub format.
Origin
On October 22nd, 2024, TikToker[1] @naturallycrownd_nblessed posted a video in which she is giving her daughter a silk press. The video begins with the daughter saying, "I'm getting my silk press." The mother then accidentally burns her daughter's head and she exclaims, "Mama that burn." Her mother then yells at her to be still. The video gained over 135 million views in a month.
Spread
The video went viral throughout November 2024 as the subject of memes, with the original sound garnering over 19,000 uses in a month. Some of the most viral memes are slideshows in which the first slide features a subject and the second features a representation of that subject burnt.
For example, on November 4th, 2024, TikToker[2] @pedrosanchez6023 posted a meme to the sound using two different Chucky figures, garnering over 4.2 million views in three weeks.
On November 11th, TikToker[3] @05ella10 posted a version of the meme consisting of slides showing a Santa Claus mug and a Black Santa Claus mug, garnering over 377,000 views in two weeks. On November 13th, TikToker[4] @luuvvvsosaa posted a recreation of the viral video, lip dubbing to the audio, garnering over 3.1 million views in the same span of time.
On November 24th, 2024, TikToker[5] @naomislittlepets posted a video brushing their hamster's fur set to the audio, in which the hamster jumps when the brush touches its back, garnering over 3 million views in three days. On the same day, X[6] user @takyakiz posted a K-pop meme referencing the meme, garnering over 2,400 likes in the same span of time.
