Mama, Kudos For Saying That. For Spilling refers to a quote from Plane Jane (said to Q) on season 16 of RuPaul's Drag Race. The quote became a catchphrase used to caption memes on Twitter / X and elsewhere in early 2024. Also, meme creators inserted the quote into different scenes from movies and TV. The phrase plays on LGBTQ+ slang, notably the word "spilling" as in "spilling the tea."

Origin

On March 15th, 2024, season 16, episode 11 of RuPaul's Drag Race titled, "Corporate Queens" aired on American television.[1] In one scene, cast member Q says to Plane Jane, "I have been HIV positive for two years," to which Plane Jane responds, "Mama, kudos for saying that. For spilling."

A two-panel image of the conversation was tweeted by X[2] user @evanrosskatz on March 16th, who said, "Plane’s response here is ABSOLUTELY sending me. So unserious," receiving over 10,000 likes in two days (shown below).

Viral quotes of the post quickly surfaced, like one shared by X[3] user @PanderShirts on March 16th, 2024, who said, "I'm sorry I still stand by saying I think she should be assessed for autism," gaining over 20,000 likes in two days (shown below, left).

Also, usage of Plane Jane's quote as an image caption soon surfaced, evident in a post shared by X[4] user @BrennanCaldwell on March 16th, who used the Bush Learning About 9/11 meme format, earning over 2,100 likes in two days (shown below, right).



Memes using the phrase also surfaced on Instagram, like a post shared by Instagram[5] user @wussymag on March 17th, who inserted the quote into a scene from the movie Call Me By Your Name, gaining over 5,700 likes in a day (shown below).
