Make This Image As Scary As Possible, also known as SpongeBob Scary Face Redraw Trend, refers to an exploitable image featuring a faceless SpongeBob SquarePants in which Twitter / X user @RANDOMC_L_EVENT asked people to make the image "as scary as possible." The prompt went viral in mid-July 2024 as it was photoshopped and redrawn with ironic "scary" things and funny facial expressions in memes.

Origin

On July 10th, 2024, X^[1] user @RANDOMC_L_EVENT posted an edited picture of SpongeBob SquarePants without his face, captioning it, "make this image as scary as possible." The post amassed more than 50,000 likes and 1,700 reposts in a day. (shown below)

Spread

Just a few days after @RANDOMC_L_EVENT's tweet, people started to post photoshopped edits and redraws of SpongeBob's face on X as the trend spread.

For example, on July 11th, 2024, X^[2] user @GTABase wrote, "GTA VI delayed to 2026" over SpongeBob's face (seen below. left), which received roughly 2,600 likes and 110 reposts in a day. On the same day, X^[3] user @ruesatoru90 posted a tweet about Satoru Gojo's death over SpongeBob's face (seen below, right), which amassed more than 100 likes and 12 reposts in a day.
