Mac Pro Cheese Grater refer to a series of mocking comparisons between the 2019 Apple Mac Pro and a common, household cheesegrater, criticizing the design of the computer.

Origin

On June 3rd, 2019 Apple announced the release of the 2019 Mac Pro, a new high-performance computer, at the 2019 Apple Worldwide Developers Conference. The computer comes housed inside a silver, rectangular box with round grates on the side to allow for airflow (clip below).

Spread

Following the announcement, people on social media began joking about the design of the computer, comparing it to a cheese grater. The tech website Gizmodo tweeted, [1] "The Mac Pro cheese grater is back (and it looks powerful as hell)." The tweet received more than 2,000 likes and 500 retweets in 24 hours (shown below, left). Twitter[2] user @briantong tweeted, "Mac Pro? Or Cheese Grater?" The tweet received more than 6,000 retweets and 1,000 likes in 24 hours (shown below, center). Twitter[3] user @thebluehalf tweeted a photograph of an iPad next to a cheese grater with the caption "Here's my new iMac pro." The tweet received more than 10,000 likes and 1,700 retweets in 24 hours (shown below, right).

That day, Twitter[4] published Moments page about the response to the computer.

That day, Redditor [5] livesucks posted a variation of the You Guys Act Like You're Better Than Me using the cheese grater comparison. The post received more than 63,000 points (94% upvoted) and 980 comments in 24 hours (shown below).
