M to the B refers to viral TikTok video of Bella Poarch lip-syncing and making a variety of facial expressions to UK grime rapper Millie B's 2016 Sophie Aspin diss track. The audio clip of Millie B rapping went viral on TikTok in late August 2020 in videos typically mimicking or parodying Poarch's video.

Origin

On December 4th, 2016, BGMedia released "Millie B ( Soph Aspin Send )" which gained over 6.9 million views in four years (shown below).

On August 17th, 2020 TikToker bellapoarch used a clip of the diss track labeled, "original sound – lamadabe" in a lipsync video where the camera focused solely on her face making a variety of facial expressions (shown below). The video garnered over 10.5 million likes in six days.

Precursor

Prior to TikToker bellapoarch's viral video, the audio on TikTok was typically used to mock British woman and their makeup (shown below).

Spread

On August 19th, 2020, TikToker stivensonj uploaded a deepfake video of Vladimir Putin mimicking bellaroaches video (shown below, left). The video received over 4.5 million likes in five days. The next day, TikToker bebiisan uploaded a video calling for viewers to leave @bellapoarch alone after she had received negative comments for her video (shown below, center). The next day, TikToker itsjustaba uploaded another variation inspired by bellapoarch that accumulated over 3.5 million likes in three days (shown below, right).

M to the B Challenge

Sometime around August 2020, a makeup trend set to "Gentleman" by British rapper SL became popular on TikTok. The trend has participants show themselves under a variation on the caption, "'You don't look British'" followed by a cut to themselves in stereotypical British makeup or an outfit. A compilation of the trend was posted by YouTuber simp.Tiktok on August 30th, 2020, garnering over 197,000 views in three years (shown below).

On April 10th, 2022, TikToker @dominiqueallison posted a video set to an original sound for "M to the B" where she uses a similar caption then does her makeup to look like a stereotypical British chav, garnering over 22.4 million views in nine months (shown below). In a comment, she writes, "bringing this trend back LMAO." The trend became notably popular throughout 2022 leading into January 2023.
