About

“Love You So” by The King Khan & BBQ Show is a song originally released in 2005 by a Canadian rock duo, however, in late 2021 and early 2022, it became a notable TikTok song and sound. By mid-2022, the song became so oversaturated on the platform that it made many TikTokers annoyed, resulting in memes and videos about its overuse.

Origin

On September 29th, 2004, the The King Khan & BBQ Show LP was released with the song "Love You So" being the fifth title on the tracklist.[1] All of the lyrics and music were written by King Khan and Mark Sultan, the two frontrunners of the band.

The earliest known posting of the track online was by the YouTube channel ShayC on November 13th, 2006, being a live recording of the band playing the song. Over the course of 16 years, the video received roughly 34,800 views (shown below, left). The most-watched YouTube video of the song was posted on June 11th, 2018, where over the course of four years, it received roughly 1 million views and 38,000 likes (shown below, right).

Spread

The song didn't receive usage in memes until late 2021 on TikTok, reaching a peak in February 2022. The original TikToker who used the sound is unknown due to there being roughly 11.7 million videos that use it as of April 27th, 2022. However, the sound was popularized most notably from the "All My Profiles" trend that started in late January 2022.

On January 31st, 2022, TikToker[2] starz977 posted a video in which she showed all the profiles of her face such as the front, side and back. Her video received roughly 2.7 million plays and 371,600 likes (shown below, left). She did not use "Love You So" as her sound, however, on February 12th, 2022, TikToker[3] joyceirl did use the song in her recreation of the "All My Profiles" trend, earning roughly 3.8 million plays and 937,600 likes in two months (shown below, right).

Inspired by joyceirl's video, multiple TikTokers added to the "All My Profiles" trend and used "Love You So" as their sound. On February 20th, 2022, the YouTube channel TikTok Meme posted a compilation of all these videos, earning roughly 5,000 views in two months (shown below).

Oversaturation

By March 2022, so many TikTokers had used the sound that many believed the algorithm was favoring videos that used it. Many creators started adding it as the sound to their videos but muting it entirely, purely to gain traction from the algorithm that they believed favored it. For instance, on March 10th, 2022, TikToker[4] riley.lh posted a TikTok about how he was living in an abandoned high school, showing his home's odd interior that was, literally, an old high school. The video used "Love You So" as its sound but it's barely audible. In turn, riley.lh's video received roughly 47.7 million plays and 7.9 million likes over the course of one month (shown below). Before this video, riley.lh's videos were receiving less than noteworthy engagement.

Multiple TikTokers employed this technique going into April 2022. For instance, TikToker[5] hi.surya started a series called, "Sounds Stuck In Your Head," wherein every video, he covered three TikTok sounds that users were familiar with such as Goofy Ahh and I Wanna Ride, I Wanna Ride, among others. For almost every video of his series, he had "Love You So" as the audio but kept it entirely muted, purely for algorithm-based reasons (two examples shown below).

By April 2022, the sound started to receive backlash on the platform with TikTokers being vocal about its oversaturation. For instance, on April 25th, 2022, TikToker[6] onlybasedcomments posted a video that captioned a video of Jesse from Breaking Bad driving angrily with, "Me finding the home of the person who made this fucking song," earning roughly 1.7 million plays and 342,900 likes in two days (shown below).
