About
"Lost In The Fire" Dance Challenge refers to a TikTok dance trend set to the song "Lost In The Fire" by The Weeknd where two dancers grab each other's hands as if about to shake, then one spins the other so they're standing in a single-file line, hands still connected, and both rhythmically walk in place to the song. The dance trend began on TikTok in early January 2022 and went viral that month.
Origin
It is unknown who first started the dance trend. One of the earliest videos of someone performing the dance was posted to TikTok[1] on January 2nd, 2022, by TikToker @mimietta, performing it alone, gaining over 2.6 million views in two weeks (shown below). The original sound consisting of The Weeknd's "Lost In The Fire" was posted to TikTok[2] on December 26th, 2021, in a video unrelated to the trend.
Spread
The dance spread under the original sound over the course of January 2022, often performed by two people at once, inspiring over 198,000 videos using it by January 17th. By the same date, the two highest engagement videos doing the dance were posted by TikTokers[3][4] @averiemorren and @lolitalanata on January 11th and 15th respectively, gaining over 3.7 million views and 34.5 million views in less than a week (shown below, left and right).
On January 17th, YouTuber[5] TikTok Cool posted a compilation of TikTokers doing the dance, gaining over 2,800 views in under 24 hours (shown below).
