Look Between Letters On Your Keyboard or Look Between X and Y On Your Keyboard is a phrasal template meme based on a 2021 4chan post about a K-On character in which an anonymous user posted the caption "look between T and O on your'e key bored" to indicate the letters "YUI" on the keyboard, forming the character's name. In April 2024 the phrase was turned into a snowclone meme on Twitter / X in which users pointed out letters for the initials of memorable characters' names, celebrities or public figures, while also creating jokes using the space between the keyboard's letters.

Origin

On May 11th, 2021, an unknown 4chan^[5] /s4s/ user posted an action figure of Yui Hirasawa, K-On's anime main character, paired with the caption "look between t and o on you're key bored," which shows the letters Y, U and I, forming the character's first name "Yui."

On April 20th, 2024, X^[1] user @KeionDaisuki_01 reposted the 4chan post (shown below) to explain how the X / Twitter trend started, which amassed more than 63,000 likes and 5,400 retweets in a day.

Spread

Memetic content about the phrasal template started to go viral on X in April 2024 as anime fans posted the phrase to indicate their favorite characters' name initials. For instance, the earliest viral post of the trend was uploaded on April 17th, 2024, by X^[2] user @LoDthesecond, which combined an image of K-On's Yui with the caption "Look between the T and O of your keyboard," amassing more than 79,000 likes and 5,200 retweets in five days (shown below, left).

On April 19th, X^[3] user @Aniwolf33 posted a version of the phrase focusing on the space between "U and P on your keyboard," which showcased the initial letters of Izuku and Uraraka's name from the My Hero Academia anime. The post (shown below, right) amassed over 23,000 likes and 880 retweets in three days.

Redditors also joined the phrasal template meme in late April 2024, like Redditor @gamecatz,^[4] who posted a picture of American actor J.K. Simmons on April 20th, 2024, paired with the caption "Look between H and L on your keyboard," which shows the letters "J" and "K" on the keyboard. The post (shown below) received roughly 300 upvotes and 30 comments in a day.
