Look at The Size of This W is a catchphrase and reaction image often posted on social media about the slang term "W," which stands for "win." The expression is used as a compliment for someone's actions or events shared on the internet. The catchphrase became a prominent meme around November 2020 on Twitter / X and grew into a series of reaction images going into late 2023 and early 2024.
Origin
The earliest known usage of the "look at the size of this W" catchphrase was posted on X[1] by user @TheFknLizrdKing on November, 12th, 2020. The post used an infographic of the tallest buildings in the world and the letter W as the highest building, referencing the W slang term for "win." The post (shown below) amassed over 950 likes and retweets in four years.
Spread
Over the next few years, the image and phrase grew as a popular reaction on X. For instance, on February 12th, 2020, X[2] user @bayer04_en shared a picture (shown below, left) of two footballers alongside the overlay text, "Look at the size of this W," which received roughly 1,400 likes and 87 retweets in four years.
On July 17th, Tenor[3] user @wnrdrzl uploaded a GIF of SpongeBob SquarePants paired with the caption, "Look at the size of this W" (shown below, right).
