Related Explainer: What Is Lomka, The 'Inside Out 2' Parody Character Blowing Up On TikTok?

About

Lomka, written in Russian as "ломка," is the name of a parody Inside Out 2 character that was popularized on TikTok in July 2024. The word "ломка" literally translates to "breaking" or "demolition" in Russian, though it's commonly used synonymously with drug withdrawal. Many of the edits and memes featuring the blue-skinned character wearing a red shirt and blue pants depict the Lomka mentally breaking down.

Origin

On July 1st, 2024, TikTok user @hackentik[1] posted a surreal video focusing on a still blue character that morphs into a different character in a brightly lit hallway. The TikTok gained over 7,600 likes in nine days (shown below). It is also tagged #головоломка, the Russian name for Inside Out 2. Removing "голово" from that word leaves "ломка."

Spread

On July 4th, 2024, TikToker ja1_balla[2] posted a claymation video featuring the character posing as an emotion from Inside Out 2, then banging its head on a table. The video gained over 649,000 likes in six days (shown below, left). The same day, user lomka_rayli[3] posted an edit of an Inside Out 2 clip that gained over 1.9 million views in the same timeframe (shown below, right).

Over the following week, Lomka appeared in dozens of edits on TikTok, much to the confusion of users who did not understand the sudden surge of Lomka memes.

For example, on July 5th, 2024, TikToker alpcaa.19[4] posted an animation based around the character, gaining over 1.9 million likes in five days (shown below, left). The same day, user @vitalii_moymysh[5] posted a meme with the character, gaining over 81,000 likes in the same timeframe (shown below, right).
