"Loli God Requiem," also known as Shigure Ui Dance, refers to a viral anime music video by VTuber Shigure Ui. Posted in September 2023, the video went viral on TikTok and other social media as users performed the VTuber's dance and created fan animations and other fan labor.
Origin
On May 21st, 2022, VTuber Shigure Ui livestreamed the premiere of her single "Shusei!! Loli God Requiem" (jap. η²θ!! γγͺη₯γ¬γ―γ€γ¨γ / "Shusei!! Loli-Kami Requiem") on YouTube,[1] with the broadcast garnering over 658,000 views in one year. Later that day, YouTube[2] user Yura uploaded a subtitled audio of the song to YouTube, where it accumulated over 882,000 views in the same period (shown below).

On September 10th, 2023, the anime music video of the song, animated by γγγγγ, premiered on YouTube.[3] The video (shown below) received over 13.4 million views in three weeks.
On September 14th, Shigure Ui uploaded a 13-second YouTube[4] Short with the song's chorus that gained over six million views in two weeks. On September 18th, Shigure Ui posted a YouTube[5] Short with a different part of the video, which received over 4.2 million views in two weeks.

On September 14th, 2023, TikTok[6] user @okotsu_ reposted the clip to the platform, where it gained over 441,000 views and 27,400 likes in two weeks. On September 16th, TikTok[7] user @amateras_tsukuyomi made another reupload that garnered over 2.1 million views and 229,000 likes in two weeks.
Starting on September 14th, the video saw viral spread on TikTok, and, later, on other platforms, as users copied the Shigure Ui's dance and posted fan animations and memes. For example, on September 14th, TikTok[8] user @c_diablo posted a Why You So Quiet? What's On Your Mind? meme that gained over 614,000 views and 84,900 likes in two weeks (shown below, left). On September 17th, TikToker[9] @nin_gn05 posted a video in which she performed Shigure Ui's dance. The video (shown below, right) received over 4.8 million views and 438,000 likes in two weeks.
On YouTube and TikTok, multiple fan animations of the dance featuring characters from Genshin Impact, Honkai Star Rail and other franchises. For example, on September 17th, 2023, YouTube[10] user breathingg posted a fan animation of Klee from Genshin Impact dancing to the song that received over 792,000 views in two weeks. (shown below, left). On September 22nd, 2023, YouTube[11] user jikom3n posted a video of Sayu, Klee and other characters dancing, with the upload gaining over 340,000 views in one week (shown below, right).
The virality of the format also spawned memes about users stumbling onto the song in their user feeds over and over.
