Local Milk People is a quote from President Donald Trump given to Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull describing common Americans in a conversation shortly after being sworn in. After the transcript of the conversation was released, Twitter users began mocking the term.

Origin

On August 3rd, 2017, The Washington Post[1] published the transcripts of calls Trump had with Malcolm Turnbull and Mexican president Peña Nieto shortly after his inaugiration. During Trump's conversation with Turnbull. While attempting to negotiate with Turnbull out of a deal made by Turnbull and Barack Obama that would send refugees to the United States, Trump said the following:

I hate taking these people. I guarantee you they are bad. That is why they are in prison right now. They are not going to be wonderful people who go on to work for the local milk people.

Shortly after the transcript was released, jokes about the phrase "local milk people" began to appear on Twitter. Some popular examples include a tweet by @ObsoleteDogma[2] who worked the phrase into the quote on the Statue of Liberty that gained over 180 retweets (shown below, left). @Papapishu[3] parodied an online dating site advertisement by making a photoshopped advertisement for local milk people that gained over 40 retweets and 330 likes (shown below, right). Jokes about "local milk people" were covered by Select All.[4] Mashable[5] published a parody article from the perspective of a "local milk person" later that day. Huffington Post[6] and Time[7] also covered the spread of the jokes.
