Editor's Note: Not to be confused with Zoot Suit Daffy Duck. See me irl for the definition of #literallyme, "literally me rn" or uses of the phrase "literally me" to describe images without the rest of the copypasta.

About

"Literally me" is a copypasta often used in tandem with images that the poster believes represent them metaphorically. The word "literally" is used ironically, since the associated images are often animated or other characters which could not be the human author of the post. The most commonly associated image is Zoot Suit Daffy Duck.

Origin

The first use of the copypasta was on November 17th, 2015 the 4chan board /co/, "ITT: Characters that are literally, undeniably, without question, you;" this is a common question in all 4chan boards as a way to start discussions relating to people's media interests.[5] In the thread, the copypasta was posted along with a picture of Rick Sanchez from Rick and Morty..

Strangely, a post on the subreddit /r/copypasta from July 2015 (predating the original post by several months) has the full text of the copypasta, and indicates that it was originally found on the Rick Sanchez post. This aberration may be attributable to a data corruption of the DesuArchive.

Full text below:

This is me. Literally me. No other character can come close to relating to me like this. There is no way you can convince me this is not me. This character could not possibly be anymore me. It's me, and nobody can convince me otherwise. If anyone approached me on the topic of this not possibly being me, then I immediately shut them down with overwhelming evidence that this character is me. This character is me, it is indisputable. Why anyone would try to argue that this character is not me is beyond me. If you held two pictures of me and this character side by side, you'd see no difference. I can safely look at this character every day and say "Yup, that's me". I can practically see this character every time I look at myself in the mirror. I go outside and people stop me to comment how similar I look and act to this character. I chuckle softly as I'm assured everyday this character is me in every way. I can smile each time I get out of bed every morning knowing that I've found my identity with this character and I know my place in this world. It's really quite funny how similar this character is to me, it's almost like we're identical twins. When I first saw this character, I had an existential crisis. What if this character was the real me and I was the fictional being. What if this character actual became aware of my existence? Did this character have the ability to become self aware itself?

Spread

On December 3rd, 2015, the copypasta was posted to r9k board[3] with an image from Tails Gets Trolled webcomic.

On December 10th, the copypasta was again posted to /co/, this time using an image of Heimlich, the fat caterpillar from A Bug's Life.

On January 21st, 2016, the copypasta was posted to similar /co/ thread, accompanied by the image of Zoot Suit Daffy Duck; it has continued to be associated with this image as interest in the copypasta has grown.

On February 26th, a user posted a thread titled "ITT: Characters that are Literally You" to the /co/ board using a Zoot Suit Daffy image and the copy pasta as the OP example. The copypasta was used 23 separate times in reply to the OP.[7] As of March, 2016, the copypasta has been used over 48 separate times on different 4chan boards.[6]
