Listen, I Want You To Do This With Me. Let’s, Let’s Do This Together is a quote from 2024 U.S. Presidential candidate and Vice President Kamala Harris in a viral video of her calling Minnesota Governor Tim Walz to ask him to be her running mate. The video was originally posted to TikTok in August 2024, spawning a two-panel meme template on Twitter / X in the following days. Meme creators used screenshots of the two successive quotes as reaction images and added captions that outlined scenarios in which someone needed to be convinced.
Origin
On August 6th, 2024, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris posted a TikTok[1] in which she called Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, asking him to be her running mate in the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election. Harris says to Walz, "Listen, I want you to do this with me. Let's, let's do this together." The video received over 3.4 million plays and 583,400 likes in a day (shown below).
Later on August 6th, X[2] user @seandoherty tweeted the clip of Harris saying, "Listen, I want you to do this with me. Let's, let's do this together," captioning it, "me texting the gays to get margaritas with me at 3:19pm on a Tuesday," receiving over 38,000 likes in two days (shown below).
Spread
Later on August 6th, 2024, X[3] user @elamin88 posted screenshots of Harris saying, "Listen, I want you to do this with me. Let's, let's do this together," captioning them, "When I say I’m getting fries for the table." Over two days, the tweet received roughly 48,000 likes (shown below).
More X users followed the format on the next day. For instance, on August 7th, X[4] user @svershbow tweeted, "Convincing your friends to go out after 9pm in your thirties," receiving over 30,000 likes in a day (shown below, left).
Soon after on August 7th, X[5] user @PatchNavillus referenced the 2024 horror film Longlegs when writing, "Longlegs to that idiot’s mom," gaining roughly 14,000 likes in a day (shown below, right).
Video iterations continued to surface over the same timeframe. For instance, on August 6th, 2024, X[6] user @abbyemonteil captioned the clip, "me texting my friends when the worst movie I’ve ever heard of in my life is coming out," earning over 69,000 likes in two days (shown below).
