Lisa Simpson's Dinner refers to a series of image macros that use a picture of cartoon character Lisa Simpson from the animated sitcom The Simpsons staring at an empty dinner plate to express feelings of hunger, disappointment and/or economic frustration.

On October 22nd, 2016, Twitter ^[1] user @Hellamud posted a picture of Lisa Simpson sitting at her kitchen table and staring at an empty plate with her mouth agape. They captioned the picture "When you broke so you have to go to sleep for dinner." The post (shown below) received more than 3,400 reweets and 4,500 likes in 10 months.

On November 5th, 2016, Redditor ^[2] classylionking posted the meme on the /r/BlackPeopleTwitter subreddit under the thread "Gotta sleep to eat." Within in 10 months, the post received more than 23,000 points (94% upvoted) and 300 comments. Five days later, Redditor^[3] emersonic420 posted the meme in the /r/DankMemes subreddit.

The following month, on December 19th, 2016, Instagram ^[4] user @dark.libertarian posted the the image with the caption "When you finally establish communism and get home for dinner." The post (shown below, left) received more than 100 likes. Nine months later, on September 5th, 2017, Redditor^[5] RascalLouise posted the meme, received more than 40,000 points (74% upvoted) and 1,800 comments in 24 hours.
