Link Protecting Zelda refers to a piece of The Legend of Zelda fan art which depicts Link taking several arrows in the back to save Princess Zelda. The piece became an object labeling meme on Reddit and is used much like the highly-similar Silent Protector meme.

Origin

On March 16th, 2018, Twitter user @_nomeri_[1] posted artwork of Link taking several arrows to the back to protect Princess Zelda. The piece gained over 17,000 retweets and 60,000 likes (shown below).



Spread

The photo was quickly turned into an object labeling meme. On March 19th, 2018, Imgur[2] user nimaren posted an Alex Jones Gay Frogs Conspiracy meme with the image, gaining over 2,500 likes (shown below, left). The same day, Redditor pokexchespin[3] posted a People Who Sort By New joke which gained over 41,000 points (shown below, right).



The meme continued to be popular on Reddit over the following months. Other examples include a post by parzival23145 about Avengers: Infinity War spoilers that gained over 1,700 points (shown below, left). User MyBox1991 posted a meta version which gained over 1,100 points (shown below, right).
