Lil Baby Text Prank refers to a viral Instagram post that started a prank trend involving people sending an edited photo of American rapper Lil Baby in a wig to their parents to see if they "remember her." Screenshots of the prank performed through text conversations were posted to Twitter in late August 2020.
Origin
On August 18th, 2020, Instagram[2] user brndyynorwood started the prank trend in a post, according to StayHipp.[1] The post featuring, the original photo of Lil Baby, the edited photo and their parent's response to the photo, gained over 5,200 likes in two days (shown below). Their parent responded by claiming the photo was of a woman named Shakima Reels.
Spread
On August 18th, 2020, Twitter user @__rapalert[3] reposted brndyynorwood's photos and received over 258,200 likes and 61,500 retweets in two days. That day, Twitter user @PrettywithCASH[4] posted a text screenshot of their mother's response to the photo (shown below, left). The tweet garnered over 10,600 likes in two days. Twitter user @JAYVERSACE[5] also shared a text conversation screenshot where their parents thought the photo was of a person names Yashika (shown below, right). The tweet accumulated over 7,700 likes in two days.
On August 18th, rapper Lil Baby responded to the pranks on Twitter[6] by saying, "Tell yall mamas stop playing with me" (shown below). The tweet acquired over 116,600 likes and 25,500 retweets in two days.
