About

Like He Just Always In His Own World, He Really Quiet For Real Unless He Know You, continued He Funny As Hell Though If He Know You Type Shit. You Know What I'm Sayin' Like, is a quote from rapper 21 Savage about Migos member Takeoff after his death in late 2022. 21 Savage was speaking about Takeoff on the Off the Record podcast featuring DJ Akademiks. The quote became a trending TikTok sound and catchphrase going into early 2023 as users made jokes about characters, celebrities and their own friends who fit the description of quiet, funny as hell but in their own world.

Origin

On November 8th, 2022, 21 Savage was a guest on the Off the Record podcast hosted by DJ Akademiks. One clip from the podcast was uploaded to YouTube[1] by DJ Akademiks on November 8th, and at the 0:29-minute mark, 21 Savage went on a tangent about the recently deceased rapper and his friend Takeoff who he described as non-confrontational and introverted by saying, "Like he just always in his own world. He really quiet, for real, unless he know you. He funny as hell though, if he know you type shit. You know what I'm sayin' like …" The clip received roughly 726,500 views and 19,000 likes in two months (shown below).

Sometime in early November 2022, TikToker[2] 6.0uli posted a since-deleted video that created a sound using 21 Savage's quote and an ambient song. The original sound[3] was used by many TikTokers going into December 2022 despite the original video being deleted. For instance, the first known TikToker to use the audio was TikToker[4] cold5oh on November 14th, 2022, who gained roughly 708,100 plays and 123,900 likes in two months for the video that showcased his car (shown below).

Spread

The sound stayed within car TikTok (CarTok) circles in November 2022 but soon spread through humorous and memetic usage. For instance, on November 15th, 2022, TikToker[5] 1ifeofant posted a video using the sound that joked about introducing his "homeboy" to a double date, earning roughly 1.2 million plays and 255,400 likes in two months (shown below, left). On December 8th, TikToker[6] _slimehimout posted a video with the sound, joking about how his friends would talk about him in his own documentary. The video received roughly 413,500 plays and 101,000 likes in one month (shown below, right).

Going into January 2023, many TikTokers then used the sound to make jokes about silent letters in specific words. For instance, on January 11th, 2023, TikToker[7] 97honestav posted a video about the letter "a" in the word "bread," gaining roughly 1.1 million plays and 233,200 likes in 13 days (shown below).

Additionally, the sound gained increased usage after TikTokers started making photo slideshows with the sound in mid-January 2023, specifically showing three or four images of one TV character, anime character or celebrity (among other characters) who is known (either satirically or earnestly) to be quiet, "in his own world" but "funny as hell." One of the first known slideshows was posted on January 15th by TikToker[8] jays____archive who highlighted Ferb from Phineas and Ferb akin to 21 Savage's quote. The slideshow received roughly 1.9 million plays and 354,600 likes in nine days.

By January 24th, 2023, the sound[3] had amassed roughly 68,800 posts using it.
