Let's Ride the Mechanism refers to a series of exploitable redraw memes based on a meme showing two Fortnite characters, Evie and Fishstick, soy facing at the construction of the Icon Tower at Aquatar waterpark, one saying, "Let's ride the mechanism" and the other saying "Let's break all our bones!" The meme was first posted to iFunny in August 2022 and became the subject of redraws and memes referencing it over the following months.
Origin
On August 16th, 2022, iFunny[1] user Schizo_Chopper posted a meme showing the Fortnite characters Evie and Fishstick in a pose similar to the two soyjaks pointing meme where the two are looking at Icon Tower, a large waterslide being built in Qatar's Aquatar waterpark.[2] Evie has a speech bubble reading, "Let's break all our bones!" and Fishstick has a speech bubble reading, "Let's ride the mechanism!" The meme gained over 14,300 smiles in six months (shown below).
Spread
The meme was reposted to Instagram[3] and Reddit's /r/okbuddyretard[4] on August 19th and September 18th, 2022 respectively. On October 7th, iFunny[5] user RipZoe posted a remake of the meme, garnering over 3,40 smiles in four months (shown below, left). On November 6th, Twitter[6] user @MemeOfLord reposted the original meme, writing, "This image has done more for the Fortnite community than almost the entirety of Fortnite Vibin’ ever will," garnering over 1,200 likes in three months.
On November 9th, Twitter[7] user @logishere posted a piece of fan art referencing the meme, writing, "Let's ride the mechanism!" in the description, garnering over 2,900 likes in three months (shown below, left). On November 18th, Twitter[8] user @Nutquesadilla posted a redraw of the meme, garnering over 1,400 likes in a similar span of time (shown below, right).
On January 23rd, 2023, Instagram[9] user ofcoursecats posted an edit of the meme featuring cats in place of Evie and Fishstick, garnering over 3,700 likes in a month (shown below, left). On January 29th, Twitter[10] user @Ded_Meet posted a Guilty Gear version of the meme, garnering over 600 likes in two weeks (shown below, right).
