"Let's Meet at The Witches' Gathering" (Japanese: #魔女集会で会いましょう, Majo Shuukai de Aimashou) is an artistic participation hashtag on Twitter in which people depict before/after comparison images of a witch who raised a child into adult. In February of 2018, many amateur illustrators contributed to the hashtag on the site and contributed variations that gender-swapped the characters and used different intellectual properties.

Origin

This hashtag was proposed by Twitter user @coneshait (九頭さん) on February 7th, 2018 (shown below, left).^[1] The following day, she posted her first illustration (shown below, right).^[2] Each posts had earned over tens of thousands of retweets and likes within its first week.

Translation for the proposal tweet:

Under this hashtag, I'll draw illustrations of a (macho, manly and thick) man loving and protecting a witch who took in and fostered him. Anyone who wants to join is welcome. Please feel free to draw what you want under the hashtag. It's even OK to ignore those essences noted in the bracket.

Spread

On the 11th-13th, @coheshait posted guidelines for participating with the hashtag.^[8]^[9]^[10] They read:

DO NOT insult anyone/anything under the hashtags.
Use different hashtags for each commercial titles like "#◯◯集会で会いましょう" ( eg. "#ポケモン集会で会いましょう" (Let's Meet at The Pokemons Gathering)).
Use "#魔女コス集会で会いましょう" (Let's Meet at The Witch Cosplayers Gathering) for cosplays. And people dislike it MUST mute this hashtag.

Over the following two weeks, the hashtag grew in visibility on Twitter, as many illustrations inspired by the hashtag were uploaded to Twitter.^[3] Over 1000 illustrations were posted to the Japanese illustrators community Pixiv within first 2 weeks^[4] and its official curation service Pixivision covered this topic.^[5]

Additionally, a "Male Wizard" version, "Let's Meet at The Wizards Gathering" (#魔法使い集会で会いましょう^[6] or #魔法紳士の集いにて^[7]), and many derivative "XX's Gathering" hashtags were also created to depict various characters under the designated situation.
