The clip became a reaction video and exploitable meme in early 2024, spreading on Twitter / X. Northernlion's statement referenced other "death by hammers" memes like Kill This Guy With Hammers and Me and My Friends Would've Killed X with Hammers, among others like Mods, Crush His Skull.

Origin

On February 21st, 2024, Twitch streamer Northenlion was streaming Fortnite and received over 99,100 views. At the stream's 10:04-minute mark,^[1] Northenlion said, "'Comedians need to tell uncomfortable truths' MFs when the truth is uncomfortable for them: 'Okay, okay, okay, let's kill him. Let's kill this guy. Let's beat him to death with hammers.'"

The clip of the bald guy with glasses was first used in a meme by X^[2] user @NorthernIion_LP on February 22nd, 2024, who used it in a quote about Twitch streamer Tarik winning Best FPS Streamer. The quote received over 2,700 likes in a month (shown below).

Soon after, others started to use the clip in their own posts, like X^[3] user @BigIfTruman on February 22nd, 2024, who captioned it, "speedrunning youtubers the moment someone gets caught cheating," receiving over 360 likes in a month (shown below).

On March 1st, 2024, X^[4] user @jojammss tweeted the clip, captioning it, "obsessed with this clip i keep hearing it in my head," earning over 39,000 likes in three weeks (shown below).

The post received multiple viral quotes^[5] in the days that followed. Later in March 2024, meme creators exploited the clip, such as X^[6] user @ASardonicSailor on March 24th, 2024, who created an Alienposting version of the video, gaining over 9,200 likes in a day (shown below).
