About
The "Let's Hear It For the Man of the Year" Trend is a TikTok trend set to Lorde's "Man of the Year" in which participants, usually women, show a video or image of their ex-partner mistreating them after Lorde sings, "Let's hear it for the man of the year." The trend was popularized on TikTok in early June 2025 and garnered viral spread that month, inspiring media attention.
Origin
On June 5th, 2025, TikToker[1] @violetaylaa posted a video of herself set to "Man of the Year" by Lorde, captioned, "my man of the year is my ex who got mad at me when he cheated on me," garnering over 2.1 million views in six days. This could be considered the earliest known video to use the song as a way of calling out a man for being toxic in a relationship.
Spread
The trend continued to spread over the following days as TikTokers began attaching evidence of their toxic past relationships to their videos.
For example, on June 7th, 2025, TikToker[2] @unicornrainbowsparkles14 posted a version of the trend in which they share a text purportedly from their ex, where he justifies hitting her, garnering over 4.3 million views in four days.
That day, TikToker[3] @peee.bee posted a video to the trend captioned, "MAN OF THE YEAR!! got me pregnant at freshly 20 yrs old. promised me everything. left me a month after finding out. blocked me and everyone I know on everything. got with a new girl. and still doesn't care how it all affects me or his baby," garnering over 11 million views in four days.
On June 9th, TikToker[4] @.avery.claire.user posted a version of the trend where she shares an EDM song that her ex-boyfriend purportedly made out of a voice memo of her crying, garnering over 7.2 million views in two days. That day, the @PopCrave X[5] account reported on the trend, garnering over 7,400 likes in the same span of time.
