Leo Season refers to a series of memes about the period of time on the zodiac calendar that is related to with the astrological sign of the Leo. Those who were born between July 23rd and August 23rd tend to share memes associated with the zodiac signs and the personality traits associated with Leos.

Origin

The astrological sign of Leo dates back as far as 4000 BC. According to astrology-zodiac-signs.com,^[1] "Leo is one of the earliest recognized constellations, documented in Mesopotamians for the first time as early as 4000 BC. Babylonians called it UR.GU.LA – the great lion."

However, while the term "Leo Season" has been used in conversation among followers of the zodiac prior to its use in memes,^[2] one of the earliest known memes that specifically mentions Leo Season was a Keep Calm and Carry On parody on July 10th, 2013 (shown below).^[3]

Spread

Later that month, Lipstickalley^[4] forum user Yoko posted "2013 Leo Season Appreciation Thread!!" In the thread, users posted images of famous Leos.

On July 23rd, one of the earliest memes appeared on Twitter^[5] using the #LeoSeason hashtag. That day @black_rageblaze tweeted a screenshot from the film The Lion King with the caption, "Dad, what's that coming over the horizon? That's Leo Season, son" (shown below, left).

On July 23rd, 2015, Twitter^[6] user @Babs726 tweeted another Lion King image macro that reads, "Bow down, bitches: It's Leo Season" (shown below, right).

In 2019, jokes about Leo Season reached an all-time high, as people tweeted and posted various images and videos that reflected their feelings on the season. For example, on July 21st, Social media influencer Bretman Rock tweeted, "Bitch it’s almost Leo season I can feel it tickling my ass hole." The tweet received more than 67,000 likes and 10,000 retweets in three days (shown below).
