LeBron James "You Are My Sunshine" Edits is a series of LeBron Glazing memes in which the song "You Are My Sunshine" by Christina Perri plays over footage or memes of basketball player LeBron James, the description often featuring a copypasta beginning with, "Boy oh boy LeBron, where do I even start." The meme, which mocks obsessed and defensive LeBron fans, was popularized on TikTok in January 2024, continuing to spread throughout March of that year. Later that March, the memes inspired the LeEvil James meme trend, which is also often set to remixes of "You Are My Sunshine."

Origin

It is unclear who first paired LeBron James footage with "You Are My Sunshine." The trend, however, was popularized in January 2024. On January 20th, 2024, TikToker[1] @lebrigga posted a video edit in which the song "You Are My Sunshine" by Christina Perri plays over a compilation of LeBron James basketball footage, the description reading, "I love you bron bron❀️❀️❀️," garnering over 794,000 views in two months (shown below). This is among the most viral of the "LeBron sunshine" memes.

An earlier slideshow example was posted on December 30th, 2023, by TikToker[6] @lukesher17, garnering over 300,000 views in three months, although it is still unclear if this is the earliest example.

The video's top comment, left by TikToker[2] @Bakedpotato345 on January 26th, gained over 10,000 likes in the same span of time and has since inspired a copypasta. It reads:

TikTokers continued to use "You Are My Sunshine" over footage and memes of LeBron over the following months. On January 24th and 29th, 2024, TikTokers[3][4] @dropinsports and @perfectly_round posted slideshows glazing up LeBron set to the song, garnering over 730,000 and 830,000 views respectively in two months.

On January 31st, TikToker[5] @widesquaretables posted a video where they draw a portrait of LeBron set to the song, the description reading, "Lebron, where do I even start?" garnering over 1.2 million views in two months (shown below).

The meme continued to spread into March 2024. On March 12th, 2024, TikToker[6] @lesunshine_james posted a video in which an edited photo of LeBron glowing is presented while the song plays, garnering over 68,000 views in 10 days (shown below).

LeBron Glazing refers to a series of memes that make fun of LeBron James fans who are portrayed as irrationally supportive and protective of James. The unabashed devotion of the fans was related to the slang terms "glazing" and "dickriding." The memes started on TikTok in January 2023 and became more viral in mid-2023 following the LA Lakers' elimination from the 2023 NBA Playoffs. Thereafter, a variant trend started called "Saving My Glorious King LeBron James" in which the fans were portrayed as saving James from imminent and hyperbolic danger. The memes called James "My Glorious King LeBron James" or "LeKing," among other puns related to his name. LeBonBon and LeEvil James refers to a nickname and a series of memes centering on a brighter and darker alter ego of American professional basketball player LeBron James. The memes started on TikTok in mid-March 2024, after the LeBron James You Are My Sunshine' Edits, sparking more parodies and fan arts depicting James as a evil or in a brighter light.

Ervil LeBaron

Ervil LeBaron was the cult leader of a Mormon fundamentalist sect who ordered the killings of his rivals from 1974 until his death in 1981. In 2024, he was the subject of a documentary on Hulu. Later that year, he became a common Name Soundalike for LeBron James amid numerous irony edits of the basketball star on TikTok, with people joking "Ervil LeBaron" sounded like "Evil LeBron."
