Laughing King Dedede refers to a clip from the August 8th, 2018 Nintendo Direct presentation for Super Smash Brothers Ultimate in which King Dedede pranks Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong into thinking he is Donkey Kong series villain King K. Rool, causing him to burst into laughter before he's attacked by King K.Rool.

Origin

During the August 8th, 2018 Nintendo Direct about Super Smash Brothers Ultimate, King K. Rool was announced as a playable fighter in a teaser in which King Dededee pranks Donkey and Diddy Kong into thinking he's King K. Rool, only to be attacked by King K. Rool himself (shown below).

After the teaser was posted, social media users quickly pointed out King Dedede's laugh in the scene. Twitter user @YungChoclateBar called a still of the scene a necessary reaction image, gaining over 8,300 retweets and 26,000 likes (shown below, left). Additionally, it was revealed that series director Masahiro Sakurai voices King Dededee, and Twitter users used the still of Dedede laughing to represent Sakurai trolling the fans. Alpharad made that point, gaining over 1,500 retweets and 7,000 likes (shown below, right).



Other Twitter users took a still image from when King K. Rool interrputs Dedede's laugh, causing Dedede's eyes to jut out of his face. User @OctoboyYT used the still as a Twitter game, gaining over 5,600 retweets and 4,300 likes (shown below, left). User @KD_DSi posted a comparison image between Dedede from 2000 and the character in 2018, gaining over 6,800 retweets and 18,000 likes (shown below, right).
