On September 13th, 2021, Larry David and Timothée Chalamet were photographed by the website TheImageDirect.com[1] having lunch in NYC along with David's youngest daughter, Romy, and her boyfriend. The photograph (shown below) first made its way to Twitter[2] via a tweet from a Timothée Chalamet fan account, @tchalametupdate, on September 15th, 2021. The tweet received roughly 7,800 likes over the course of two days.



The image was first used as a meme format by Twitter[3] user @pleasuresystems, who tweeted the image along with the caption "relationship goals" on September 15th, 2021. The tweet (shown below) received roughly 3,200 likes over the course of two days.

The image of the two having lunch made its way into other tweets shortly after where additional users added captions to set up jokes. For example, Twitter[4] user @carterhambley used the image in a tweet that was posted on September 15th, 2021. The tweet (shown below) used the caption "me (21) getting lunch with a friend (25)," receiving roughly 256,000 likes and 15,000 retweets over the course of two days.



Other tweets using the image began to surface in the days following, like tweets from Twitter users, @reservoirpawgs[5] and @lilsamsquanch66,[6] who both received over 3,000 likes each. Screenshots of various tweets using the image began to surface on Instagram as well. For example, the Instagram[7] account @bipolarexpress430 received roughly 1,500 likes for posting a screenshot on September 16th, 2021. The tweets and memes that used the image centered mostly on the age gap between the two celebrities, as well as referencing them as a romantic couple and relating them to Chalamet's 2017 movie Call Me by Your Name.
