Lalala vs. Okokok, also known as La La La vs. Ok Ok Ok or Lalala vs. OkayOkayOkay, refers to a TikTok trend and personality quiz in which creators use Tyler, the Creator's song "See You Again" to label themselves, celebrities and fictional characters with either "Lalala" or "Okokok" in reference to the song's adlibs. Lalala people vs. Okokok people became a notable "vibe check" on the app, used to identify the dichotomy between best friends, shipping couples and real-life romantic partners, among other duos. A Lalala person (or Lalala girl) vs. an Okokok person (or Okokok girl) was mainly differentiated via extrovert vs. introvert comparisons.

Origin

On March 15th, 2023, TikToker^[1] @nevon1nonly posted an original animation showing two characters singing the adlibs of Tyler, the Creator's 2018 song "See You Again"^[2] featuring Kali Uchis. TikToker^[1] @nevon1nonly proclaimed in their caption, "theres two types of people listening to 'see you again,'" and over the course of one month, the video gained roughly 4.5 million plays and 692,000 likes (shown below).

Due to the video's virality, TikToker @nevon1nonly got a comment that asked them to make the video its own sound. TikToker^[3] @nevon1nonly fulfilled the request on March 15th, 2023, gaining roughly 2.4 million plays and 123,500 likes in one month (shown below, left). The TikTok^[4] sound earned mass engagement going into late March 2023, as creators started to identify themselves with either "Lalala" or "Okokok." For instance, an early, viral example was uploaded by TikToker^[5] @jhonajellie on March 26th, 2023, gaining roughly 428,100 plays and 87,300 likes in three weeks (shown below, right).

Going into April 2023, various TikTokers posted more videos with their friends or partners, further pushing the Lalala vs. Okokok person narrative. For instance, on March 29th, 2023, TikToker^[6] @kuckak posted a video about the dichotomy, gaining roughly 968,200 plays and 204,500 likes in 19 days (shown below, left). On April 11th, TikToker^[7] @roronoaerika posted a video that became the sound's most viral video in its one-month span, gaining roughly 16.3 million plays and 3.2 million likes in six days (shown below, right).

The trend also became notable via photo slideshows on the app in which meme creators object labeled fictional characters and memes with either "Lalala" or "Okokok." For instance, on April 4th, 2023, TikToker^[8] @rwmpar posted a She Was a X Girl He Was a X Boy meme, gaining roughly 347,500 plays and 74,700 likes in 13 days (shown below, left). On April 8th, TikToker^[9] @lynxpixies posted a photo that labeled Katniss and Peeta from The Hunger Games, gaining roughly 2.4 million plays and 443,700 likes in nine days (shown below, right).

Over the course of one month, the TikTok^[4] sound created by @nevon1nonly amassed roughly 412,300 videos and slideshows using it.

Lalala Okokok Quiz

Sometime in April 2023, uQuiz^[10] user zivster uploaded a quiz called "Okokok or lalala," designed to determine if one was an "Okokok" person or a "Lalala" person.
