Lady Gaga Directing The National Guard refers to a picture taken the day before the Inauguration of Joe Biden in which Lady Gaga, set to perform the national anthem the next day, is speaking to National Guard troops there for security. The picture spread around Twitter as people made jokes interpreting it as Gaga giving the troops orders.
Origin
On January 19th, 2021, Lady Gaga was photographed in Washington D.C. speaking to National Guard troops. The pictures were tweeted by Lady Gaga fan account @GagaImages[1] (shown below).
Spread
The pictures were quickly parodied by Twitter users as though Lady Gaga were giving the National Guard orders. For example, user @rhymeswithbeg[2] tweeted the picture with the caption "Find Madonna. Bring her to me," gaining over 24,000 retweets and 180,000 likes (shown below, left). User @actualjack[3] tweeted a joke about as though she were conducting the troops like a dance troupe, gaining over 7,900 retweets and 68,000 likes (shown below, right). Jokes of this ilk were covered by StayHipp.[4]
