"Ladies, Please, Contain Your Orgasms" is a phrase often found as a reverse caption for image macros, usually over a photo of a man with seemingly low sex appeal exhibiting an aura of confidence. It can also be self-applied by a person sharing a photo of themselves.

Origin

The earliest known instance of an image macro using this caption was posted to FunnyJunk[3] on September 22nd, 2010. The caption was placed over an image of a boy with a freckled boy with a ginger afro and a double chin (shown below). As of August 2013, the image has received a score of 2260 and has been viewed more than 97,000 times.

Spread

In October 2010, this photo was reshared on humor sites DailyHaha[4] and eBaum's World.[5] Later that year, "Ladies please contain your orgasms" appeared on at least three additional submissions to FunnyJunk.[6][7][8] In December 2010, the first Facebook fan page[2] dedicated to the phrase and original photo was launched, gaining 3,200 likes by August 2013. Sometime that year, a Meme Generator[9] page using the original photo was created, accruing 685 images as of August 2013.

Throughout 2011, people on message boards like cigar enthusiast forum Puff[10] and the Vinesauce forums[11] began to use the phrase when posting pictures of themselves. In July 2011, a second Facebook fan page[1] for the phrase was created, using a photo of a young child with a mullet, which has gained more than 16,500 likes as of August 2013. "Please contain your orgasms" was used on Reddit for the first time on August 19th, 2011, in a submission to the /r/MachinePorn[12] subreddit containing a photo of the prototype supersonic fighter Rockwell XFV-12. In 2012 and 2013, additional images using the phrase have been featured on a number of humor sites including We Know Memes[13], MemeCenter[14], The Lolbrary[15] and Cheezburger.[16]
