About

Ladies Of The House Of Worth In Quarantine refers to a tag yourself image macro featuring drawings of women from the late-19th and early-20th century fashion house The House of Worth, each with various characteristics related to how they're dealing with coronavirus quarantines. The first image first gained attention in April of 2020, as did a follow-up image posted in October.

Origin

On April 20th, 2020, Twitter user @NataniaBarron[1] tweeted a "tag yourself" image featuring women from The House of Worth, each with traits on how they were handling the coronavirus quarantines. The tweet gained over 1,200 retweets and 1,600 likes (shown below).

Spread

The image proved popular with publications, attracting coverage from The Mary Sue,[2] the Daily Dot[3] and Newsweek.[4] Barron herself recounted the image going viral in a blog post.[5] There were many responses to the image, though none were as popular to the image itself (examples shown below).

However, her second iteration of the meme,[6] posted on October 27th, 2020, proved much more popular, gaining over 1,700 retweets, 7,700 quote tweets, and 10,000 likes (shown below).

The image proved so popular that "Maude" began to trend on Twitter as people were claiming they identified with the character (examples shown below).[7]
