About

La Leyenda Puchaina (The Legend of Puchaina) refers to a series of creepypasta stories on TikTok using AI art, which have elements similar to FlopTok memes, such as the "goddess Jiafei" and the so-called "potaxies." The trend started in March 2024 and centers around "Puchaina," an AI-generated avocado that symbolizes female empowerment, often using an eerie and ominous soundtrack and AI voiceover.

Origin

The earliest mention of the "Leyenda Puchaina" started somewhere between February and early March 2024, as a creepypasta audio (original video deleted), which surfaced on TikTok telling a story about "La teoria de la puchaina negra," which translates to "The theory of the black puchaina" in English.

On February 26th, 2024, TikTok[1] user @erzyta.ftf posted Roblox gameplay accompanied by the puchaina negra sound (shown below, left), which received more than 1.3 million plays and 314,000 likes in three months.

On March 19th, TikTok[2] user @jiafeistore_es posted the most notable viral "Leyenda Puchaina" story, titled "La leyenda de la Puchaina que desapareció en el bosque de Anekakanekulo," translated to "The legend of the Puchaina who disappeared in the Anekakanekulo forest," which jokes about K-pop idol Park Bom viral video[3] speaking in Spanish, saying the made-up word "Anekakanekulo." The post (shown below, right) amassed over 9 million plays and 804,000 likes in two months.

Spread

Ironic fans of the Potaxie community on TikTok started to create more creepypasta stories about "Puchaina." For example, on April 7th, 2024, TikTok[4] user @kittyandreitaa posted the "legend of the Puchaina addicted to TikTok" (shown below, left), which garnered more than 4.8 million plays and 509,000 likes in three weeks.

On April 18th, TikTok[5] user @kittyandreitaa posted a parody of Jojo Siwa as a "Puchaina" (shown below, right), amassing more than 3 million plays and 488,000 likes in a week.
