"La Espada", or "The Sword" in English, is the name of a song from the anime series Bleach that acts as the theme for the villains called "Los Espadas" (The Swords). The song itself features a heavy Spanish guitar theme and is whimsical in nature. In late 2021, the song saw use on TikTok as a viral original sound in the background of various videos. While there's no unifying style behind TikToks using the song, most of them are light-hearted and fun in nature, reflecting that of "La Espada" itself.

Origin

On November 20th, 2021, the TikTok account Samualpinney^[1] uploaded the first video to use the sound file and the original sound itself, called "La Espada – Eternal Raijin," in a video about the different types of guys there are on the attracted to female anatomy spectrum, earning 3 million likes in two months (shown below).

Spread

The sound continued to spread on TikTok as other users made use of Samualpinney's upload in their own videos. Within two months of it being added, over 185,000 videos used "La Espada," with several of them having millions of likes each.^[2]

On January 1st, 2022, TikToker^[3] Nathan_ham uploaded a video using the sound file in which he flies out of his window and web swings down his street, amassing over 3 million likes in one month while using the sound's middle section flourish to show the climactic transition (shown below).

On January 17th, TikToker finessefave^[4] used the sound to go over his video of sneaking into the Cowboys vs. 49ers NFL game, earning 2.2 million likes in one month (shown below).

The song itself was previously uploaded to YouTube^[5] by the channel Eternal Raijin on February 17th, 2020, where it gained 4.5 million views in two years, though it's unrelated to the 2021/2022 TikTok trend and usage (shown below).
