About

Kursi Hijau (Eng. Green Chair) is a green-colored plastic chair that gained notoriety in Indonesia after it was used to hit several young gangsters, who were then apprehended. After a video of the event was released online, the chair saw use as an exploitable referencing the event.

Origin

On December 7th, 2022, Facebook[1] user GereJa uploaded two videos of young gangsters showing their weapons, who he claimed to be gangsters. Then, he uploaded another video showing a man hitting the three young gangsters who were caught, using a green plastic chair. He hit them repeatedly until it was broken into pieces. The video received more than 13,000 reactions and 82,000 shares (shown below, left). Due to the original video being removed from the platform, the images below were reuploaded to Facebook[2] by user Ahmad Hudlori (shown below, right) and display moments from the incident.

Spread

Starting that day, the green plastic chair became referenced as a weapon to be used against gangsters. For example, on December 9th, 2022, Facebook[3] user Fhi Rmd uploaded a photo of a table with green chairs with a caption joking that the chairs were the reason why gangsters didn't want to attack their restaurant. The post received more than 1,700 reactions and 1,200 shares (shown below, right). On the same day, Facebook[4] user Tri Julian Syah uploaded an image of green chairs stacked in the back of a pickup truck with a caption reading "siap membasmi gangster" (Eng. ready to eradicate those gangsters) to the "l a h ?" group. The post received more than 11,000 reactions and 3,900 shares (shown below, right).

On December 10th, 2022, TikTok[5] user @genmdisease uploaded a parody of Chainsaw Man where he transforms into a green chair instead of a human chainsaw. The video received more than 1.7 million views (shown below).
