About

Kris Jong-Un is a nickname given to Kris Jenner by her son-in-law Kanye West in a tweet. The nickname, referencing Kim Jong-Un, was posted in July 2020 during a tweet storm which raised concerns over West's mental health. Kim Jong-Un inspired photoshops on Twitter and Reddit.

Origin

On July 21st, 2020, Kanye West tweeted, "They tried to fly in with 2 doctors to 51/50 me I been trying to get divorced since Kim met with Meek at the Warldolf for 'prison reform' I got 200 more to go This my lady tweet of the night … Kris Jong-Un Lil baby my favorite rapper but won't do a song wit me"(since deleted). The next day, Twitter user @Bill_Meyer617^[3] tweeted a screenshot of the tweet and garnered over 39,700 likes and 6,700 retweets in a day (shown below).

Spread

On July 22nd, 2020, Redditor lurkinglucy reposted a screenshot of the tweet to r/KUWTK^[5] and received over 90 points (98% upvoted) in a day. That same day, Twitter user @Manny_Pain^[4] posted a photoshop of "Kim Jong-Un" saying, "What I Imagined When Kanye Said Kris Jong-Un" (shown below, left). The tweet gained over 109,600 likes and 25,500 retweets in a day. That same day, Redditor snonsense posted another photoshop to r/KUWTK^[6] that acquired over 325 points (94% upvoted) in a day (shown below, right).

Twitter user @CalebTello tweeted, "When you realize Kris Jong-Un’s daughter is Kim Jong-Un" paired with Math Lady (shown below). The tweet garnered over 36,800 likes in a day. StayHipp^[1] and The Daily Dot^[2] published articles on the nickname.
