About

Kos, Or Some Say Kosm refers to a quote from Bloodborne boss Micolash. The Micolash boss fight grew infamous among players for how his dialogue repeats while the player hunts him down, leading his "Kos, or some say Kosm" monologue to turn into a copypasta among the fanbase. While there was initially confusion as to who Kos/Kosm was, the release of The Old Hunters DLC clarified that Kos is a Great One whose death may have set the events of Bloodborne in motion.

Origin

In Bloodborne, released March 24th, 2015, the player fights Micolash in the Nightmare of Mensis level of the game. During the Micolash boss fight, Micolash runs through a labyrinthine castle, forcing the player to hunt him down before fighting him. While the player hunts for Micolash, Micolash repeats several lines of dialogue, most notably a monologue which reads, "Ah, Kos, or some say Kosm… Do you hear our prayers? As you once did for the vacuous Rom, grant us eyes, grant us eyes! Plant eyes on our brains, to cleanse our beastly idiocy."

Spread

The monologue quickly became an in-joke among players. On June 17th, 2015, on Dark Souls Wiki Fextralife, user NPC_Invader posted a comedic poll on whether the word is pronounced "Kos," "Kosm," or "AWOOO," referencing another line of Micolash dialogue.[1] On August 1st, 2017, Redditor DevlishlyHandsome49 posted a thread in /r/Bloodborne[2] titled, "Why is 'Kos or some say Kosm' so funny? I can't stop giggling," gaining over 150 points. It became a common quote to use in posts referencing Micolash or Kos. For example, user The-Bath-Salesman posted a picture of a child resembling Micolash in /r/shittybloodborne[3] with the "Kos" quote, gaining over 100 points (shown below, left). On October 4th, 2017, user Shuima posted a GIF to /r/shittydarksouls using the quote.[4]

The text has also been used as a copypasta on Twitter as well. For example, user @Wolfenoctis[5] posted art of Micolash with the quote, gaining over 360 retweets and 1,600 likes (shown below, left). On October 7th, 2020, Twitter user @immolations used the copypasta in a Trump parody tweet, gaining over 1,300 retweets and 5,900 likes (shown below, right).
