Knuckle Tattoo Idea is a series of memes in which long, funny phrases are shown tattooed on a person with extra knuckles. The original meme was posted by Tumblr user footlongdingledong in May 2023, showing a drawing of a man with "AI generated" tattooed on his knuckles. In December 2024 the meme was popularized on X / Twitter.

Origin

On May 7th, 2023, Tumblr^[1] user footlongdingledong posted, "knuckle tattoos that say AI GENERATED," later posting a drawing of what that might look like after user ashey-did-owt-wrong asked, "Where does the eleventh letter go?" garnering over 72,400 notes in a year.

Spread

On December 11th, 2024, X^[2] user @wimberlen posted "new tattoo idea" along with a drawing of a man with the name "Adam Katz" tattooed on his knuckles, garnering over 1,100 likes in a week. On December 16th, X^[3] user @gutterpunks posted a version where a character has "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" tattooed on his knuckles, garnering over 38,000 likes in three days.

On December 17th, X^[4] user @helllst4r posted a version of the meme based on the game Fear and Hunger that garnered over 10,000 likes in two days.
