Knock Knock Motherfucker It's the United States of America or We Found Oil is a viral TikTok audio in which a text-to-speech voice says, "Knock knock motherfucker it's the United States of America and I hear you guys got oil that isn't under my possession. So turn off the stove and return the oil to me before I have to resort to bringing democracy," while the song "Heads Will Roll" by Yeah Yeah Yeahs plays. The audio was first uploaded in July 2023 and was popularized over the following months leading into 2024 through a series of memes about striking oil only for America to begin an invasion to obtain it.

Origin

On July 31st, 2023, TikToker[1] @carnor_jax212 posted a video in which a toy tank is set up in front of an oily pan on a stove, set to the song "Heads Will Roll" by Yeah Yeah Yeahs. As the song plays, a text-to-speech voice narrates, "Knock knock motherfucker it's the United States of America and I hear you guys got oil that isn't under my possession. So turn off the stove and return the oil to me before I have to resort to bringing democracy." The video gained over 207,000 views in five months (shown below).

The original sound for @carnor_jax212's video then went viral, inspiring over 82,400 uses in the next six months. The majority of the most popular videos are slideshows and memes in which someone strikes gold, only for the U.S. to interfere and take it.

On December 30th, 2023, TikToker[2] @kaan.denizzzz posted a slideshow that gained over 20 million views in a month. On January 12th, 2024, TikToker[3] @carnoyt3 posted a video made in Minecraft using the audio, garnering over 10.3 million views in two weeks (shown below, left).

On January 14th, TikToker[4] @a_random_aviator posted a recording of @kaan.denizzzz's post showcasing comments on the post from accounts with usernames representing notable U.S. citizens and organizations, garnering over 12 million views in two weeks (shown below, right).

The identical audio by TikToker @a_random_aviator became similarly popular as an alternative to the original sound, garnering over 59,000 uses in two weeks, the majority being slideshows that begin with a slide showing a man with his hands full of oil, followed by one suggesting U.S. interference. For example, on January 16th, TikToker[5] @soviet_force_kgb_edit posted a slideshow that gained over 7 million views in two weeks (shown below).

On January 22nd, 2024, TikToker[6] @yaz.milli posted a video using the sound that gained over 25 million views in a week (shown below).

America Invading for Oil

America Invading For Oil, also called the America Oil Meme, is a meme mainly found on Reddit that involves photoshopped American troops operating to secure normal household items that contain anything oily. The meme also includes image macros of troops, or otherwise armed individuals, with captions implying the show-of-force is for the purpose of capturing more oil.
