Kissing Leaf refers to a viral video in which TikToker Junie Grey, aka @junietoonz, uses a visual effect to make her body form the shape of mistletoe, asking viewers to guess the shape, then calling the mistletoe a "kissing leaf." The video was posted in December 2023 and inspired memes referencing and recreating the general format of the video and poking fun at the name "kissing leaf." The TikToker was banned for an unknown reason shortly after the video went viral.

Origin

On or shortly prior to December 8th, 2023, currently banned TikToker^[1] @junietoonz posted a video set to the song "Drown Me!" by Junie & TheHutFriends in which she asks viewers to guess the shape that her body contorts into before the time runs out. In the video, she uses visual effects to make her body pull apart and form a shape. This is a regular series that Junie is known for.

At the end of the video, a deep voice reveals that the shape is a "kissing leaf" and a graphic of the plant mistletoe, which people are supposed to kiss under at Christmas time, fades in over her body. The video was reuploaded by TikToker^[2] @nuh.uh915 with different audio that day, garnering over 92,000 views in roughly two weeks, and on December 10th by TikToker^[3] @so_preppy_in_here1000000 with the original audio, garnering over 27,000 views in nine days (shown below).

As the video went viral, TikTokers began to post videos referencing and recreating it with a particular focus on the name "kissing leaf" for mistletoe. TikTokers also began posting videos poking fun at her "guess the shape" challenges in general, with some finding the way her body contorts "creepy."

For example, on December 10th, 2023, TikToker^[4] @just.eyebags posted a video referencing the series, garnering over 2 million views in nine days (shown below, left). On December 12th, TikToker^[5] @kayzynx posted a video referencing the kissing leaf video, garnering over 2.3 million views in a week (shown below, right).

On December 16th, TikToker^[6] @heytimspeedruns posted a video recreating the kissing leaf upload with a Roblox character, garnering over 730,000 views in three days (shown below).
