Kim Yo Jong at the 2018 Winter Olympics refers to a reaction video of Kim Jong-un's Kim Yo Jong appearing to give United States Vice President Mike Pence the "side eye" while standing behind him at the 2018 Winder Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

On February 9th, 2018, Twitter user @flyosity tweeted a video clip of Kim Yo Jong standing behind Mike Pence at the "2018 Winter Olympics," along with the message "Pence vs. Kim Jon Un's sister is basically amazing" (shown below).

That same day, Business Insider[8] published an article titled "Video shows Kim Jong Un's sister throwing a look to the camera while standing behind Mike Pence." On February 10th, 2017, Twitter user @pbump[5] tweeted "Kim Jong Un's sister with deadly side-eye at Pence." Meanwhile, The Washington Post[6] published an article citing the South Korean news media's comparison of Kim Yo Jong to "Ivanka Trump of North Korea." Also on February 10th, Twitter user @jasonelevation[7] tweeted a Distracted Boyfriend image macro depicting "American Lefties" looking longingly at a "North Korean Gulag Queen" (shown below).

On February 10th, CNN[2] published an article titled "Kim Jong Un's sister is stealing the show at the Winter Olympics."
That day, BuzzFeed[1] published an article criticizing those praising Kim Yo Jong titled "PSA: Kim Jong Un's Sister Is Not Your New Fave Shade Queen. She's A Garbage Monster." The same day, Twitter user @Kasparov63[4] tweeted "Someone tell @CNN that they site has been hacked by the North Korean propaganda ministry." On the following day, author Michael Malice posted a tweet criticizing CNN for "being more hostile to an American citizen who made a wrestling GIF than to a representative of the most evil government on earth," referencing the #CNNBlackmail controversy (shown below).[3]

On February 11th, The New York Times[10][11] published an article titled "Kim Jong-un’s Sister Turns On the Charm, Taking Pence’s Spotlight," which highlighted Kim's diplomacy-savvy and self-composed demeanor during her three-day visit (shown below).

Flashing a sphinx-like smile and without ever speaking in public, Ms. Kim managed to outflank Mr. Trump’s envoy to the Olympics, Vice President Mike Pence, in the game of diplomatic image-making.

On Twitter, the article was quickly met with backlash from the critics of the North Korean government, including journalists in South Korea and conservatives in the United States, as well as op-ed articles from the New York Post[9] and Mediate[11] denouncing the newspaper's seemingly empathetic profile of the dictator's sister and a high-ranking official within the Workers' Party of Korea.
