Kid Cudi Humming refers to a series of memes that revolve around rapper and singer Kid Cudi and his iconic hums frequently featured in many of his songs. Typically, these memes appear in the form of various reaction images or GIFs that refer to Cudi’s fans reacting to hearing his hums, but can also be seen in videos or object labeling memes. Originally appearing in the mid-2010s, such memes can be seen throughout the latter half of the 2010s and into the early 2020s on a range of social media platforms and websites.

Origin

Throughout Kid Cudi’s career as an artist, he can be heard humming during a number of tracks, but one of the earliest comes from his song “My World” off the album Man on the Moon, which was released on September 15th, 2009. The music-lyric site Genius News[1] released a video titled, “A Music Expert Explains Why Everyone Loves Kid Cudi’s Hums,” on May 2nd, 2019, which documents the trend in Cudi’s music throughout his career (seen below).

The exact first example of a meme referencing Kid Cudi’s Humming is unknown, but users online began posting one such example using the Elmo Nuclear Bomb meme around 2016, which has since been reposted countless times. On December 19th, 2016, the Instagram[2] page wu-tang-financial posted this version to their feed (shown below), receiving 599 likes.

On YouTube, several examples of Kid Cudi humming remixes and loops can also be found, many of which extend these verses for hours or remix them with the sounds of nature. YouTuber[3] MotorCity Quan uploaded their video (seen below), “Kid Cudi humming over thunderstorm,” on January 5th, 2019, that now has over 1.6 million views, 94,000 likes and 5,000 comments.

iFunny[4] user SAYENNINJA uploaded another example to the site (a repost from Instagram user Scoopty) on March 10th, 2019, featuring a reaction GIF of a man floating while listening to Cudi. The post (shown below) was liked 22 times.

On March 19th, 2020, Redditor[5] D P A D then posted a meme to the r/KidCudi subreddit under the title, “Hmmmmmmmwooahhhh.” This meme (seen below) received over 1,300 upvotes and 11 comments.

The Facebook[6] page Meme Extreme uploaded a variant to their feed on February 7th, 2020, describing what listeners feel when hearing Kid Cudi humming. The post (shown below) was liked 789 times, shared 487 times and commented on another 128 times.
